Why Kruti Dev text looks like gibberish
Text typed in Kruti Dev 010 is stored as English keys. Open it on a device without the font, or change the font, and हिन्दी turns into fgUnh. Search, copy-paste into other apps and screen readers see only those codes.
Converting it to Unicode fixes this for good: Unicode Hindi shows correctly in any Hindi font, on any phone or computer.
How to use it

Vowel signs and ready-made letters
The codes our converter reads for vowels, vowel signs and the ready-made joined letters of Kruti Dev 010, drawn from our own table. In Kruti Dev the short i sign (ि) is typed before its letter, and the reph (र् on top) after its syllable; the converter puts both back in Unicode order.

How well it converts
| Test | Result | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Kruti Dev → Unicode | 980 / 980 | held-out words; 20 left out because the other converter dropped the nukta dot |

Measured 6 Nov 2026. Method and limits: How we test accuracy.
Known limits
- A few rare Kruti Dev codes (some punctuation keys, the Devanagari digit slots and some extended characters) are read from our table but not yet checked against the real font.
- DevLys 010 looks similar but uses different codes for some letters. A DevLys converter is being built separately.
- English words typed in an English font inside the same document will be converted too; convert only the Kruti Dev parts.
- Word sometimes turns the Kruti Dev keys for श and ष into curly quote marks (’ “). We work out from the whole text which letter they stand for. When the text is too short to tell, a switch under the result lets you choose.
- The visarga key (ः) is also used as a colon. In running text we write it as a colon (:), except in words that really end in a visarga, such as अतः and क्रमशः.
Questions
My text shows as English-like letters. Is it Kruti Dev?
If it looks like fgUnh or Hkkjr, it is very likely Kruti Dev or a similar font. Paste a line here: if the result reads as Hindi, it is.
Will the result work in Mangal?
Yes. The result is Unicode, so it shows in Mangal, Nirmala UI, Noto Sans Devanagari or any other Hindi font.
Can I convert a whole Word file and keep the formatting?
Not yet. For now, copy the text, convert it and paste it back. Formatting such as bold and tables is not carried over.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The text and any .txt file you open stay on your device.
