What Mangal is

Mangal is a Hindi font that comes with Windows. It is a Unicode font: text typed in it is stored as real Hindi letters, so it still reads as Hindi in Nirmala UI, Noto Sans Devanagari or the font on a phone. Hindi typed with the Windows Hindi keyboard or Google Input Tools is Unicode in the same way, so it converts here too.

Kruti Dev 010 is older and works differently. It draws Hindi letters over English keys, so its text is stored as those keys: हिन्दी is saved as fgUnh.

Why offices still ask for Kruti Dev

Many offices, printers and typists set up their letters, forms and templates in Kruti Dev 010 before Unicode Hindi was common, and some still want new text in it so that it matches what they already have. Typists trained on the Kruti Dev keyboard keep using it too.

Choosing Kruti Dev in the font list does not change Mangal text, because Kruti Dev has no Unicode Hindi letters. The text has to be converted into Kruti Dev codes first. That is what this converter does.

Paste it into Word with the Kruti Dev font

  1. Copy the Mangal text (Ctrl+C) from Word, an email or a web page.
  2. Paste it in the first box. The Kruti Dev codes appear at once. They look like English letters; that is how Kruti Dev text is stored.
  3. Press Copy, go to Word and paste (Ctrl+V).
  4. Keep the pasted text selected and choose Kruti Dev 010 in the font list. The Hindi letters appear.

If the text still looks like English letters, the Kruti Dev 010 font is not installed on that computer. We do not supply it. Bold, tables and other formatting are not carried over by copy and paste; set them again after pasting.
